The fossil finger was found in cretaceous gravels at the Commanche Peak
limestone, not far from the Paluxy riverbed. The first replica is a
cast of the finger before sectioning, the second after. It has undergone
further sectioning since. This is done to reveal the inner details
of the fossil and to verify its authenticity - and verify it does!
As previously mentioned, latex molds can preserve remarkable details from the original fossil. In this case, the sectioning revealed astounding detail preserved in the fossil: The bone, marrow, skin layers, and tendons. Many of these details show up in the replica casting while some are preserved more as a colouring in the original fossil.
Some with the expertise to do so were immediately able to identify this fossil as the third finger on the left hand of a woman. Again, one must ask: What are human remains doing in dinosaur age rock if dinosaurs were supposed to be extinct for at least 60 Million years before humans ever arrived on the scene?
